Pokemon Legends: Z-A is coming out for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in just two weeks from now, and while many critters included in the game have been confirmed by trailers and marketing materials so far, a few dozen have yet to rear their heads. However, between all the new Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions and returning ones, leaks, rumors, and a certain pattern, it’s easy to figure out the entire Pokedex. Things may still change, but it’s basically confirmed that the game will include a total of 232 Pokemon on launch, and that’s for a few reasons:
- 198 Pokemon are currently confirmed.
- Leaks from last year’s TeraLeak have all been proven correct so far, meaning the game will indeed include 26 new Mega Evolutions, some of which have already been shown, and are identical to the descriptions provided by leakers.
- Leaks mentioned that almost all Pokemon capable of Mega Evolving would come back, with the exceptions of Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza, with the latter not being coded into the game at all.
- Rumors point to the exclusion of Volcanion and Diancie from the main game’s Pokedex, stating they may return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimension DLC alongside Mega Raichu X and Y, as well as Hoopa.
- All base-game Pokemon from Gen 6 will return, according to leaks.
- Xerneas and Yveltal’s status is unknown, and the same goes for Mewtwo.
- Zygarde is #230 in the Pokedex, followed by the only two Pokemon in the game from beyond Gen 6, based on leaks, meaning the total number of critters in the game is 232.
With all this in mind, and considering all the plausible candidates for returning, the Pokedex for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is already clear. New information and leaks may come out soon, considering that some copies of Pokemon Legends: Z-A are out early.

There are some considerations to make with this Pokedex. Among the many Pokemon Legends: Z-A leaks, one of the earliest was that Stunfisk is in the game, but it hasn’t been shown at all so far. If the leak regarding Zygarde being number 230 is accurate, it’s hard to justify its spot with Stunfisk being in the game.
Allegedly, Zeraora was cut from PLZA despite leaks indicating it would be there and get a new Mega, so it’s possible that Stunfisk has been cut or moved to the DLC.
The same applies to Legendary Pokemon like Mewtwo (which has two Megas), Xerneas, and Yveltal, but there’s an argument for them to be post-launch additions dedicated to events, like Walking Wake and Iron Leaves in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This remains to be seen, but unless some starter lines are excluded, the Pokedex will most likely be similar to the above.
